Conventional Job Search Advice That Leads To Failure

Conventional Job Search Advice That Leads to Failure (under is a transcript from the video) Kevin Kermes: Alright Olivia, I know that after listening to a lot of “specialists” on the market, we hear a ton of dangerous career recommendation, and dealing with greater than 15,000 purchasers, what’s some of the standard job search advice that you simply’ve seen result in failure? Olivia Gamber: There’s so much, but the greatest one I suppose that I hear time and time once more, and I’m still surprised that persons are giving this recommendation is, to give attention to keywords on the resume. This one drives me loopy as a result of it’s primarily specializing in the resume, which we’ll get to later as to why that’s where you shouldn’t be focusing, but finally, you’re writing a resume for a machine. And an applicant tracking system. And primarily focusing on pushing yourself into, in your message, into a system that lumps you in with everyone else and positions you as a commodity. That’s the largest one. What differe nt ones are you able to consider that you simply- Kevin Kermes: Yeah so one which completely breaks my heart and drives me batty is, and you see this on LinkedIn on a regular basis, it’s ensuring individuals know you’re in search of a job. You know, “currently seeking other opportunities”. Olivia Gamber: Yes. Kevin Kermes: Number one, there’s no level of leverage there, as a result of there’s no value for anyone else. Nobody cares when you’re in search of a job. Nobody’s going to hire you because you’re in search of a job. They’re going to rent you since you’re exceptionally good at what you do. That’s what you’ve received to lead with. I know you’ve received to have more. I know there are plenty more. Olivia Gamber: Right now the large thing is LinkedIn, and optimizing your LinkedIn profile, and making sure that you simply’ve got each, that you simply spend hours and hours in your LinkedIn profile, and the underside line is, that’s great, however it does undertake the idea that “construct it and they'll come”. Like once you have this phenomenal, amazing profile, it’s simply going to open the floodgates of recruiters blowing up your cellphone, but at the end of the day, it’s still a passive strategy, and LinkedIn is a tool, and it’s a platform to get your message out there, but if you’re merely just optimizing your profile, that’s simply more … You’re still sitting back and waiting, and also you’re not taking management, and proactively, strategically getting your message out there. Kevin Kermes: Yeah. And it doesn’t leverage the most highly effective thing that LinkedIn is trying to do, which is to be an informational and news source from a platform standpoint, and you’re simply ready for individuals to come to you. And I imply you wrap all this up, what we talked about by way of the difference between positioning your self as a commodity, and standing out. Activity versus productiveness. And that’s wh y lots of this may seem like sensible recommendation, it’s tactical, it’s passive and it’s not connecting with individuals who then can become your advocates, and it’s not connecting with folks around what their biggest pains are, which, oh by the way, is strictly why they’re going to go get more money to pay you above market. Olivia Gamber: So yes, and we go into this process that we advocate within the e-book, so when you haven’t already, download that beneath. And if you already have the guide, please share this, get this out to extra individuals who you assume may gain advantage this, and go ahead and click and share social media, Facebook, or forward this on to someone you understand that could value from it.
